December 7 -

Postby Szerong » Thu Dec 07, 2017 12:28 am

1 Corinthians 16:13-14
13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 14 Do everything in love.

Paul reminded the Saints at that time to be vigilant and to stand firm in the Truth. The Corinthian Church was a rich church, but they were often divided and attacked each other. There were those who held up the apostles, and those who exalted gifts and teachings. Often, they attacked each other because of the different emphasis of each individual. Paul reminded everyone to return to the truth, not to argue about these minor things, so that our hearts can be released from these, and are able to maintain unity. Paul said, "Be vigilant, do not give the devil a foothold. Do not because of different views or methods of receiving, allow the devil an opportunity to divide the church. Be sure to stand firm in the truth and against the enemy, so that the enemy will flee from us!” And Paul reminded us to do everything in love. The love of man is limited, and thus our love must come from God, with patience and grace, in order to last. Let us treat each other with love, not only to those who preach, but also to our brothers and sisters, and to each other in the love of Christ. Let the world see this love and recognize us as disciples of Christ.

"And do everything in love. "

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear. "

Reflection:

Truth or Words come before our personal experience. Each and every experience, i believe there is a truth (verse) about it. God's Words is a way He show His love.

If we love right, love the way God loves, then we will be strong, courageous, have no fear in us. Because it takes one to feel or to experience how great God's love is first to understand the meaning of "perfect love drives out fear". This too, needs faith in God.

People will condemn, but God's unchanging love will forever be here with us. Through that, i pray that each and every one of us will be able to stand firm on the truth as we know how true God is and how great is His mercy and grace.

Christian faith is really not one that calls us to a higher ethical life.
It challenges us to remember that by our own efforts we CANNOT produce a truly spiritual life.
It takes the work of the Holy Spirit in us.
That, religion cannot do.
Ceremony has the power to sooth and mollify the conscience, but ceremony no more changes reality than outward behaviour guarantees love.
~ Ravi Zacharias

Faith never knows where it is being led; it knows and loves the One who is leading.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient God;
Thank-You Lord for being a source for me to be rooted in.
Please forgive me, Lord, for I have been so easily swayed and have been doing things not in love for You but love for myself.
Help me, Lord, to seek You all over again, to set my entire being on You & Your love.
As I stand firm in the faith, in You, Lord, vigilance, courage, and strength will follow.
In the name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen

*Personal reflection*
1) Lifeline
We are told to "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong."
Standing firm in the faith will actually lead us to be on our guard (for that is needed to stand firm in the faith), courageous and strong.
The thing is Paul could have just written "Be on your guard; be courageous; be strong." Why'd he have to write "stand firm in the faith"?
Probably because without rootedness in the faith, we would still be yielding to sin in cowardliness and being weak and yoked by sin forever.

The thing about our spiritual life is, we can never have a "spiritual life" by our own means. We need to involve God, and God needs to be at the center!
To be rooted, standing firm, in the faith, we need God to be the center of our very lives! Every action, every thought, every emotion, our very being needs to be centred around Him!

He is our lifeline - He's always there when we need Him, provided we acknowledge that we need Him and actually seek Him.

2) Choice of fuel
Every trip to the petrol kiosk will provide us with multiple options of fuel for our vehicle.
How then do we know which fuel to use?
Every type of vehicle is best suited for fuel unique to itself - some are best suited for diesel, some are best suited for petrol, some are best suited for biofuels etc.

Similar to a vehicle, there are many fuel options available for us - money, friends, relationships, prestige, power, recognition, affirmation etc.;
Similar to a vehicle, there is a unique fuel that we are best suited for. This fuel is love.

Sure, we can run on any other fuel option. But like a car, we will eventually break down due to the inappropriate fuel choice.
Even our brain and body will break down when we do not fuel it correctly, much less our hearts and souls!

Why are we doing the things we do?
Why are we being nice to people? Because we want to be seen as nice? Because we want affirmation and recognition from people? Because we want to be loved and uplifted by people? Or is it because we genuinely love them even if this love isn't reciprocated?
Why are we studying? Because we want to be knowledgeable? Because we want to get a high-paying and stable job in future? Because the world says that we are nothing without education? Because our parents want us to study? Or because we genuinely love God and want to do our best in the areas He has put us in, for Him?
Why are we working? Because we need to earn money for a living? Because we are deemed as reliable and 'grown up' when we work? Because we want to be able to do the activities we want that normally cost a hefty sum? Or because we genuinely love God and want to give more to His kingdom?

Many a times, it isn't a change in our lifestyles that we truly need; it isn't a change in actions or behaviour that we truly need.
What we need is a change in the fuel for the soul that we choose.

Our sole purpose is in Him.
We serve, we love, we learn, we grow, all for the glory of the Lord.
But many times we would unconsciously drift away from our real purpose in life due to many distractions around us.
Which is all the more the reason why we have to build our foundation in Him.
1 Corinthians 3:11
"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ."

When we learn to zoom out from our tiny little problems and fix our eyes on God, these problems can never be greater than Him.
God is that big and that great that we really don't have to get stressed and troubled over our little problems.
Because eventually all these soon will pass, it's affecting us so much right now but will it even matter to us when we are back at our eternal home?
Similarly when we argue over minor things and forgot about our initial purpose in this world, we are actually allowing satans to have their ways.
Their ultimate purpose is to pull us away from God.
1 Peter 5:8
"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."
The heart is willing, but the flesh is weak, therefore 更要警醒...

Dear God,
Lord I come to You, let my heart be changed and renewed...
Lord give me faith to trust whatever You say and lead me to Your desired path.
Lord we're broken inside yet You still accept our offerings.
Lord, give us strength for we are weak, give us the wisdom to know what must be done and the courage to do it...
Lord I come to You, broken and lost. I'll wait upon You and I long for more...
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Yes, standing firm is so important, especially when sin has become a norm.
We see countries legalising same-sex marriage, twisted beliefs and sinful lifestyles.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
The world is constantly changing. Today, the right is wrong, tomorrow, the wrong becomes right.
Only God's truth doesnt change. What is right to him will always be right and sin will always be sin.
So may we all walk in the Truth!

Indeed! And I'm grateful that our church has always been strong rooted in the bible.
I pray that God will continue to guide us in this ever-changing world.
